About Harold Macmillan
Before he was named as the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister in 1957, Harold Macmillan worked as Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Foreign Secretary under the Anthony Eden administration. He spent most of his political career with the Conservative Party on whose ticket he became the Prime Minister.
During his tenure, he was able to strengthen the country’s relationship with other countries including the United States.
He was also credited with facilitating the processes to decolonize Africa. He further introduced a number of reforms to improve the living conditions of the citizens. These reforms include the Housing Act in 1957, and the Noise Abatement Act in 1960.

He was a product of the Summer Fields School. He briefly studied at Eton College before joining Oxford University’s Balliol College.
