Career and Awards
In 1989, Markowitz was the recipient of the John von Neumann Theory Prize. The following year, he was the winner of the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.
Harry Max Markowitz has gained recognition for his works, including modern portfolio theory. He has published several research articles and books such as “The Elimination Form of the Inverse and Its Application to Linear Programming”, “Portfolio Selection: Efficient Diversification of Investments”, “Market Efficiency: A Theoretical Distinction and So What?” and “The Theory and Practice of Investment Management”. In 2002, Markowitz was inducted into the Fellows of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.
