About Harry Saltzman
Canadian theatre and film producer, Herschel ‘Harry’ Saltzman was best known for co-producing the first nine movies of the “James Bond” franchise.
Early Life and Career
Saltzman was born in Quebec, Canada to Polish immigrant parents. When he was a teenager, he ran away from his family’s home in Cleveland, Ohio and joined the circus two years later. In 1950s, he ventured into film production, working on movies like “The Iron Petticoat” and “Look Back in Anger”, and “Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.”
Personal Life and Death
Saltzman married three times during his lifetime. He had three children with his second wife named Hilary, Christopher, and Steven.
The film producer died after suffering a heart attack in 1994 during a visit to Paris.
Trivia
His second wife, Jacqueline Saltzman appeared as a passenger in the 1963 James Bond movie “From Russia with Love.”
Saltzman enlisted in the Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He was medically discharged in 1943.
