About Harry Tobias
When he was 16 years old, his first song, "National Sports," was released, catapulting him into stardom. Harry Tobias, a lyricist and songwriters’ hall of fame inductee, enjoyed a career filled with radio successes and film compositions.
Background
With his songwriter brothers, Charles and Henry, he spent his formative years in Worcester, Massachusetts. At the age of 16, he started penning down songs. He and Will Dillon co-wrote "That Girl of Mine" and "Take Me To My Alabama" when he was just 19 years old.
He entertained the troops while serving in World War I before joining his older brother Charles’ music publishing company. In 1929, he moved to Hollywood to compose for films. He contributed to the movies "Blondie of the Follies,"(1932), "Love Is All" (1940), and worked on a 1945 Three Stooges movie.
In the 1930s and 1940s, he co-authored the theme songs for a number of movies, including "It's a Date," (1940), "Made for Each Other" (1939) and "The Young in Heart"(1938). He worked primarily with Charles, Henry, and other prominent writers like Al Sherman throughout his career.
He died in 1994, leaving behind his son Elliot Tobias.
