Early Years & Career
Crawford was one of the 11 children born to Lionel Crawford and Phyllis Holder. He started his career in athletics when he was 17. He attended Eastern Michigan University and participated in several tournaments.
He made his international debut in 1970 at the Commonwealth Games, where he won bronze before winning gold at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. Following his major win, he continued to compete in other tournaments, including the Central American and Caribbean Championships, as well as four other Olympic games.
Honors
Crawford is a member of the Caribbean Hall of Fame. In 2000, he was named Trinidad & Tobago Athlete of the Millennium. He also received the Order of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago in 1978.
