German writer and poet Bernd Heinrich Wilhelm von Kleist’s fame rests on the mastery he employed in his theatre productions such as, “Das Käthchen von Heilbronn" and " Penthesilea". His books “Penthesilea" and "The Marquise of O" also made waves in the literacy world.
Early Life
The author was born to Joachim Fredrich Von Kleist and Juliane Ulrike and lived most of his youth in Germany. He enlisted in the Prussian Army in 1792 and later studied law and philosophy at the Viadrina University (located in today’s Germany).
Career
Kleist published a number of novels and short pieces in his career. He published "Michael Kohlhaas. Aus einer alten Chronik" in 1808 along with "Die Marquise von O". The author went on to create more compelling write ups such as "Der Zweikampf" in 1811. He has written a number of plays such as "Amphitryon" in 1807 and "Die Hermannsschlacht" in 1809.
Personal Life and Death
The author was in a relationship with Henriette Vogel in 1811.
In 1811, aged 34, he shot himself to death. His death came in the same year he lost Vogel to cancer.
