About Helen Keller
Helen Keller was an American author who is well-known, especially in her home state of Alabama, as the first person ever to earn a degree in Arts (Radcliffe College) while having next to nothing in the ability to hear or see, thanks to the incredible guidance of her equally visually-impaired teacher, Anne Sullivan. She was one of the first members in the Alabama Writers Hall of Fame. Some of her writings include The Story of My life (1903), The World I Live In (1908), and My Religion (1927).
Activism
Keller was also a known political activist who frequently campaigned for people with disabilities, labor rights, birth control, women’s right to vote, and she was also a pacifist. She was a member of the Socialist Party of America and the Industrial Workers of the World.
