About Henri Désiré Landru
The French serial killer, Henri Désiré Landu was responsible for the death of eleven people which included seven women from the village of Gambais and a young boy from Vernouillet.
Personal Life
He was born in 1869 to devoted Catholics and had his education at a catholic school where he was taught by monks.
He met his wife during a mass worship; the pair got married in 1893 and share four children.
Career
Landru was once a devoted husband and he worked on minor jobs like an accountant and store assistant. He ventured into crime activities when he designed a motorbike as well as a new suburban railway line, pitched his idea to investors and after they had invested in the project, he ran away with their money. He was on the run but was eventually arrested by the police.
His biggest crime was from 1913 to 1914, where he duped a lot of people into giving him an amount of money as a way of investment to his automobile factory.
Trial and Execution
Landru faced trial in 1921 at Versailles. The conman and murderer was convicted with the murder of eleven people. He was sentenced to death and his execution took place in 1922 and it was done by guillotine.
Trivia
Most of the women he was alleged to have killed were widows.
