About Henrietta Leavitt
The scientist was famous for developing Leavitt's Law. The astronomer also established and modified the Harvard Standard for photographic measurements which received approval from the Internal Committee of photographic Magnitudes in 1913.

Her parents were George Roswell and Henrietta Swan Kendrick.

She is an alumnus of Oberlin College and Harvard University (BS).
Career
Leavitt worked at the Harvard Observatory in Cambridge, Massachusetts as one of the women computers under director Edward Charles Pickering. She measured and classified the brightness of stars as shown in the observatory’s photographic plate collection and became a staff member at Harvard in 1898 and traveled to Europe to finish a period as an art associate at Beloit College in Wisconsin.
She was back at the Harvard College Observatory in 1903 and Pickering allotted her study variable stars of the Small and Large Magellanic Clouds, a dwarf galaxy near the Milky Way. She identified 1, 777 variable stars and her findings were published in 1908 in the Annals of the Astronomical Observatory of Harvard College.
Death
She died from stomach cancer on December 12, 1921 at age 53.
