About Henry Clay
Henry Clay was an American lawyer and politician known for being the United States Senator from Kentucky as well as the 9th United States Secretary of State. He was also the 7th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. He earned the nickname "The Great Compromiser" as a result of successfully brokering a number of compromises, including the famous Compromise of 1850. He first ran for the President of the United States. He ran for the presidency again in 1832 and 1844.
Family Life
He married Lucretia Hart in 1799. The couple had eleven children, including Henry, Jr., James Brown Clay, and John Morrison Clay.
Trivia
He owned several slaves during his lifetime but instructed that they be freed in his will.
