About Henry Ford II
If it hadn’t been for the intervention of Henry Ford II, American automobile company Ford Motor Company would have collapsed. He took over the presidency of the company in 1945, at a time where the firm was struggling to find its feet after the Second World War.
Ford’s aggressive approach helped the company to operate as a publicly traded entity. In order to revive the company, he hired ten U.S. Air Force officers to manage the company. This group was then known as "Whiz Kids". He also went on to serve as the CEO and Board Chairman of the company.
Family
He’s a descendant of the popular Ford family. His grandfather Henry Ford I was the founder of the Ford Motor Company. Edsel Ford I, his dad, also served as the company’s president. His siblings were called Josephine, William, and Benson.
He had three children with his first wife Anne McDonnell. The children were Anne Ford, Charlotte Ford, and Edsel Ford II who would serve on the board of the company for more than three decades. He later married Maria Cristina Vettore, before tying the knot with Kathleen DuRoss in 1980.
Education
Before he began his studies at Yale University, he attended The Hotchkiss School.
Achievements
He was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969. Ford became a member of the Automotive Hall of Fame in 1983.
Trivia
Before joining the family’s company, he was a member of the U.S. Navy.
He appeared in the 1965 film titled “Thunderball”.
