About Henry IV of England
Henry IV of England was the King of England and the Lord of Ireland who reigned on the throne from 1399 until his death in 1413. He was the first monarch of the Lancastrian dynasty. Prior to becoming king, he had been exiled for life by his first cousin and King of England, Richard II. He returned from exile and retaliated by deposing Richard II and claiming the throne. He was succeeded by his son Henry V.
Family Life
He was the son of John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster and Blanche of Lancaster. His first marriage was to Mary d Bohun, with whom he had six children, including Henry V of England. After the death of Mary in 1394, he married Joanna of Navarre. The marriage produced no children.
Trivia
Before he died, he suffered from a leprosy-like disease.
