About Henry Stanley Plummer
Henry Stanley Plummer was an American Internal practitioner who dealt with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of internal diseases. He was also an endocrinologist who amassed a lot of recognition for co-founding a nonprofit American academic medical center called the Mayo Clinic with William Mayo, Charles Mayo, and Augustus Stinchfield.
Early Life
The physician was born to Albert Plummer and Isabelle Plummer. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1898 and later went on to graduate from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Career
Plummer began professionally practicing medicine a little after graduating. He joined William Mayo in 1901 to aid in clinical practice. He also developed and managed diagnostic and research labs in 1907. Plummer was the first to utilize X-ray machines as a diagnostic tool at the Clinic. He worked closely with Frederic Maass to design and develop innovations such as steam sterilization rooms, metal surgical tools and equipment, pneumatic tube systems, and knee-operated sinks.
Personal Life
Plummer married Daisy Plummer in 1904.
