About Herb Alpert
Growing up in a musical-inclined family, Herb Alpert learnt to play the violin from his father and gained inspiration from his father’s mandolin-playing talent and his brother’s drumming skills. Alpert, who would later become a successful trumpeter, composer, arranger, singer, songwriter and record producer, had earlier attempted a career in acting. In the 1960s, he led the Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass band. His hit singles include “Rise”, “Diamonds”, “This Guy’s in Love with You” and “A Taste of Honey”.
Family Life
His parents, Louis Leib Alpert and Tillie Goldberg were both Jewish immigrants. He is a father of three: two from his first marriage to Sharon Mae Lubin and one from his second wife, singer Lani Hall.
Achievements
He was honored with a National Medal of Arts in 2013 and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is also a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.
Trivia
He is a co-founder of A&M Records alongside Jerry Mos.
