About Hermann Hesse
Hermann Hesse was a revered German-born Swiss novelist, poet and painter best remembered for his novels such as 1922's Siddhartha, 1927's Steppenwolf and 1943's The Glass Bead Game. For his impressive accomplishments as a writer, he won the prestigious Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946.
Personal Life
He was married three times and fathered three children. His last marriage was to Ninon Hesse in 1931. He and Ninon remained together until his death in 1962.
Awards
Besides winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, he won several other important awards during his lifetime such as the Goethe Prize in 1946, the Wilhelm Raabe Literature Prize in 1950 and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 1955.
Trivia
He strongly opposed the Nazis as they took control of Germany.
