About Hoagy Carmichael
Hoagy Carmichael was the stage name of songwriter, musician and actor Hoagland Howard Carmichael. He is considered to be one of the 20th century’s most talented music composers and was one of the first of his contemporaries to use sophisticated technology in recording music.
His hundreds of compositions spun about 50 hits including, but not limited to, “The Nearness of You”, “Georgia on My Mind”, “Heart and Soul” and “Stardust”.
Family Life
He was the only son and eldest child of Lida Mary Robinson and Howard Clyde Carmichael. He married Ruth Meinardi in March 1936. They had two sons and divorced in 1955.
Achievements
He is an inductee of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Death
He died on 27 December 1981 from a heart attack.
