About Hortense de Beauharnais, Queen Consort of Holland
Hortense de Beauharnais was raised as Emperor Napoléon I’s stepdaughter. She later became Holland’s Queen Consort due to her marriage to Louis Bonaparte, her stepfather’s brother. As the Queen, she mostly accompanied her husband to official ceremonies and celebrations.
Aside from that, she was also a lover of music and was said to be a good singer and pianist. She wrote the patriotic song titled “Livre d’art de la reine Hortense”.
Family
She was the daughter of Joséphine Tascher de la Pagerie, Napoléon I’s first wife, and Alexandre de Beauharnais. Her children with Louis Bonaparte were Napoléon Charles, Prince Royal of Holland; Napoléon III, Emperor of the French; and Louis II, King of Holland. The former died before adulthood. She also had one illegitimate son named Charles, Duke of Morny.
