About Howard Dietz
American publicist Howard Dietz comes to mind whenever the famous trademark of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) is on the screen.
Background
Dietz attended Columbia University’s School of Journalism in 1917 and wrote publications and newspaper columns before enlisting into the United States Navy where he doubled as the editor of the magazine Navy Life.
Career Highlights
Dietz was a publicist for Goldwyn Pictures Corporation and rose to the position of Vice-President in 1947. He also created Goldwyn advertising slogan “More stars than there are in the Heavens”.
He worked with composer Arthur Schwartz on several Broadway theatrical musicals like “The Little Show”, “Three's a Crowd”, “Revenge with Music”, and “Between the Devil”.
Dietz was an excellent administrator, he served as director of the American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP) from 1959 and helped in the promotion of war bonds during the Second World War.
This librettist was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1981.
Trivia
