Humberto Suazo, born Humberto Andrés Suazo Pontivo, is a legendary Chilean professional sports star. Suazo is one of the most prolific strikers in Chilean football. In 2022, the striker was signed with Deportes La Serena.
Background & Early Career
At age six, his father led him to join Club Torino. After spending eight years at Torino, he left in 1996 and joined Universidad Catolica.
Club Career Highlights
Between 2002 and 2022, Suazo enjoyed spells at many clubs in Chile, Spain, and Mexico, including San Antonio Unido, San Luis Quillota, Audax Italiano, Colo-Colo, Monterrey, Raya2, and Real Zaragoza before joining Deportes La Serena.
At Monterrey, he won three consecutive CONCACAF Champions League titles (2011, 2012, & 2013) and back-to-back “Liga MX” (Apertura 2009 & 2010) titles. In addition, he won 4 “Primera División de Chile” trophies at Colo-Colo.
In 2006, he led the football world with the most international goals (17), earning him the “IFFHS World’s Top Goal Scorer.” Suazo was also the top scorer in the 2011–12 CONCACAF Champions League, 2006 & 2007, Torneo Apertura (Chile), and 2008 Torneo Clausura (Mexico).
International Career
He earned 60 caps and scored 21 goals for the Chilean national team between 2005 and 2013. He also led the top scorers list in the 2010 CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup qualifications.
