About Ibn Khaldun
Ibn Khaldun is credited as a founding father of the current social science fields of sociology, economics, historiography and demography. The Arab historian, philosopher and sociologist is recognized by several European scholars of the 19th century as one of the Middle Ages’ greatest philosophers. He is well-known as the author of the “Muqaddimah”, a book through which he recorded an early view of world history. He also pursued a political career, starting with his position as a seal-bearer of the Ibn Tafrakin (the Tunisian ruler)’s chancellery and ending as a chief judge of the Maliki school of fiqh in Egypt.
Family Life
According to his autobiography, his grandfather and father led mystical lives after abandoning the pursuit of politics. He had a brother named Yahya Khaldun who was a historian as well.
Death
He died while in his sixth term of office as the Maliki chief judge in Cairo, Egypt on March 17, 1406.
