About Ilaiyaraaja
He is an Indian singer, songwriter, film composer, and conductor-arranger, who is noted for his outstanding efforts in the Indian film industry, mainly in the Telugu and Tamil industry. His real name is Gnanathesikan.
Due to his astonishing contributions, he is sometimes referred to as one of the greatest Indian music composers of all-time. He is credited to having mainstreamed the western music sensibilities into the Tamil and Telugu films. Highly regarded as one of the world's most prolific composer, he is noted to have composed over 7,000 songs.
Family Life
He got married to Jeeva and they both stayed married until her untimely death in 2011. His children include music and film composers; Karthik Raja, Bhavatharini and Yuvan Shankar Raja. His siblings include Indian lyricist and director, Gangai Amaran, Pavalar Varadarajan, Daniel Bhaskar, Padmavathi Rajayya and Kamalammal Rajayya.
Achievements
Gnanathesikan won the award for "Best Background Score" at the 1995, 1996 and 1999 Kerala State Film Awards.
He received an honor for the "Best Music Director" at the 1992 Filmfare Awards.
He took home an accolade for the category, "Independent Theatrical Feature Films & Videos - Music Score" at the 2005 Gold Awards.
Gnanathesikan was named "Best Music Director" at the 1977 Creative Awards and at the 2012 Nandi Awards.
He won the "Best Background Score" at the 2010 Silver Lotus Awards.
