About Ilya Prigogine
Ilya Prigogine was one of the 20th Century scientists who contributed immensely to the study of chemistry. The Russian-born Belgian chemist would be remembered for his research on topics like irreversibility, and dissipative structures.
The Nobel Prize winner also laid the foundation for the development of the two-fluid model, which is one of the most-used concepts in the study of traffic engineering. In order to make his finding known to the public, Prigogine published quite a number of books with the most popular ones titled “The End of Certainty: Time, Chaos, and the New Laws of Nature” and “Advances in Chemical Physics”.
Family
He was born to Yulia Vikhman and her husband Ruvim Abramovich Prigogine. In 1961, he married Maria Prokopowicz and together they had a child named Pascal. He also had one son with Hélène Jofé called Yves.
Education
This famous chemist was a product of Free University of Brussels.
Laurels
He was the recipient of the 1955 Francqui Prize. He also received the Rumford Medal in 1976, and the Nobel Prize in Chemistry the following year.
