About Irvine Welsh
Scottish writer Irvine Welsh has garnered recognition for his novels, plays, short stories and screenplays. He made his professional writing debut in 1993 when his first novel, “Trainspotting” was published.
It became successful, albeit its controversial nature (filled with vivid descriptions about brutality and drug addiction) and was followed by “The Acid House”, his second novel. His other well-known novels include “Porno” and “Filth”.
Family Life
He grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was married for several years to an American woman, with whom he lived in Lakeview, Chicago, Illinois. They divorced in 2018.
Achievements
He won a Scottish Arts Council Book Award in 1994 and a 2002 Saltire Society Scottish Book of the Year Award.
Trivia
His novels, “Trainspotting”, “Filth” and “The Acid House” were all adapted into films with the same titles.
