About Isaac Brock
Isaac Brock joined the British Army in 1785 at age 15 and was initially assigned to the 8th (The King's) Regiment of Foot. He was elevated to the position of a captain in 1791 and joined the 49th (Hertfordshire) Regiment of Foot.
In 1802, he was put in charge of the British army at Lower Canada, and also commanded the troops in Upper Canada. He would be remembered for his heroics during the infamous War of 1812 where he led an army to defeat the United States. He was later given the appellation "The Hero of Upper Canada".
Family
His parents were Elizabeth de Lisle and John Brock, and had a brother called John who was also an army officer.
Honors
He received the Order of the Bath award which earned him his knighthood.
Death
Brock was killed while commanding his troops during the Battle of Queenston Heights.
Facts
The famous Brock University, which was established in 1964, was named after him.
Historians have indicated that his last word before his death was “Surgite!” which translates into English as “Push on!”.
