About J. Bruce Ismay
Ismay was a renowned business guru who was known for serving as the chairman and director of the British shipping company, White Star Line. He, however, gained much prominence in 1912 after he became the highest-ranking White Star official that survived the sinking of the infamous RMS Titanic catastrophe - where over 1,500 of the estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard were reported dead.
Since the disaster Ismay lived the rest of his life in regrets, he eventually passed on in 1937 after suffering a stroke.
It should be noted that in 1982, he was a part of the team that created the English amateur team, Liverpool Ramblers football club.
He has been portrayed in several works like "Titanic" (1943), "You Are There: The Sinking of the Titanic" (1955), "Titanic" (1996), "The Curiosity: What Sank Titanic?" (2011), and several others.
Family Life
His father, Thomas Ismay founded the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company, while his mother was Margeret Bruce. He was married to Julia Schieffelin from 1888 till 1937. His children were Evelyn, Margaret, George, Thomas and Henry Ismay. Bruce's grandchildren include Alan, Hugh, Murray and Pauline Sanderson.
