About J. Robert Oppenheimer

Robert Oppenheimer was an important American theoretical physicist.

His Work

Robert Oppenheimer was in charge of the Los Alamos Laboratory during World War II. During this time, the US was looking for an upper hand in the war. This led to the Manhatten Project, which ultimately produced the first atomic bomb. Oppenheimer was in charge of this project, so he is now considered one of the father's of the atomic bomb. He is at least partly responsible for the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that ended World War II. After this, he worked to avoid international nuclear proliferation.
