This award-winning drummer has a wide-ranging style that makes him a dynamic and one of the greatest drummers of modern jazz. Jack Dejohnette is a pianist, composer and drummer well known for working with some of the best in jazz like; Alice Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock and John Scofield.
Early Life
At the age of four, Dejohnette began taking piano lessons. By his teens, he was playing professionally. However, he got interested in drums and took lessons from jazz drummer Bobby Miller Jr. His style was a fusion of rock and jazz, which caught the attention of Charles Lloyd who offered him a place in his band.
Career
From 1965 to 1968, this Chicago-native played with several bands before releasing his first solo project, “The DeJohnette Complex”. His ability to incorporate any genre of music to jazz made him one of the most sought-after drummers of his time, giving him the opportunity to form several bands such as Special Edition.
In 2005, he launched his record label Golden Beams Productions and also won his first Grammy Award in the category “Best New Age Album”.

This ace drummer married his second wife in 1968.
Achievements
He received the 1978 Grand Prix du Disque award in Paris.
Between 2005 and 2008, he won two Grammy Awards.
