About Jack Gantos
Multiple award-winning author Jack Gantos has gained international fame for his contributions to the development of children's literature in the United States. His collaborative works with fellow author Nicole Rubel have further increased his popularity in the country.
Gantos is best known as the creator of the fictional character known as Rotten Ralph. His first picture book was published in the 1970s. In 1998, he published a book titled “Joey Pigza Swallowed The Key” which was the first of his famous “Joey Pigza” novel series.

Gantos has been the recipient of many prizes including the Children's Book Showcase Award, the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction, and the American Library Association’s Newbery Medal.

He published a memoir in 2002 which was entitled “Hole in My Life”. The publication has been considered for a number of awards including the Sibert Medal, and the ALA Printz Award.
He has served some years in jail for a drug-related offense.
