About Jack Kent Cooke
The Canadian business mogul Jack Kent Cooke was described by some as having lived a life of luxury and success. Although he loved sports, he could not join the major league baseball team in Toronto, and Cooke had bigger plans and later became the owner of famous teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Redskins.
Early Life
Cooke spent his early childhood learning how to be a business module. At 14, he was already making money by selling encyclopedias. He later went into the soap business for Colgate-Palmolive in 1936 and later joined forces with Roy Thomson to buy various old radio stations and publishing buildings in 1941.
Business Career
With the experience and estate and property purchase, Cooke made his first genuine purchase in 1951 when he bought the minor league Toronto Maple Leaf's baseball club. After owning other teams such as the Philadelphia Athletics and Detroit Tigers, Cooke travelled to the United States and entered the broadcasting industry by acquiring a Pasadena-based radio station in 1959. Cooke founded the United Soccer Association in 1967 and owned the Los Angeles Wolves.
Personal Life
Cooke was married a total of 5 times. His first marriage, which lasted from 1934 to 1979, was to Barbara Jean Carnegie. His last marriage was to Marlene Ramello Chalmers. That marriage lasted until his death in 1997. He had a total of 3 children.
Death
He died on April 6, 1997, aged 84. The cause of death was congestive heart failure.
