About Jackie Mason
Jackie Mason entered into comedy as a way of raising money to cater for his family. Prior to taking up the profession, he was an ordained rabbi who led a congregation in North Carolina. According to him, his sense of humor drew lots of members to his synagogue.
His breakthrough came in 1986 after performing in the comedy show titled “The World According to Me!”. He was widely known for his frequent use of puns and innuendos in his performances. Most of his comedies are about the political situation in the United States.

He studied Sociology and English at the City College of New York.
Acting career
Aside from being a stand-up comedian, Mason was also used in films and television series. He played Roger Pitman in the 1974 comedy film entitled “The Stoolie”. He later appeared as Jackie Fisher in 1989’s “Chicken Soup”.
Controversies
He was banned from appearing on the “The Ed Sullivan Show” after he was accused of showing his long (middle) finger to the host. A camera footage later proved that the accusation was untrue.
The comedian received lots of criticism for using the “schvartze” word to describe some black political figures like Barack Obama, and David Dinkins.
Awards
He won an Outer Critics Circle Award, and Special Tony Award for his 1986 show “The World According to Me!”.
Trivia
Sheba, his daughter, is also known to be a comedian.
