About Jacques Cousteau
Jacques Cousteau was an iconic French naval officer, undersea explorer, scientist and filmmaker known for his remarkable underwater investigations and award-winning documentaries, including The Silent World. He is regarded as one of the most prominent pioneers of marine conservation. In 1985, he was presented with the highest civilian award of the U.S., the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Family Life
He was born to Élisabeth and Daniel Cousteau. In 1937, he and Simone Melchoir got married. He had an older brother named Pierre-Antoine. The marriage produced two children. After Simone's death in 1990, he got married to Francine Triplet in 1991. He fathered two children with Francine.
Trivia
In 1956, The Silent World became the first documentary film to ever win with the prestigious Palme d'Or award.
He was the co-inventor of the Aqua-Lung.
In his youth, he almost lost his life after he was involved in a serious car accident that left him with severe injuries.
