About Jacques Pépin
He is an American celebrity who has gained prominence as an author, a chef, a television star and an artist.
Personal Life
Even though he is American, he was born in France. His parents were Jeannette and Jean-Victor and he had two brothers. Growing up, he lived with his parents who were proud owners of a restaurant and he also worked there with them. Working there made him develop a taste for making sumptuous meals. By the time he was thirteen, he was ready to learn more and got an apprenticeship with Le Grand Hôtel de l'Europe. He only grew from there and started travelling around the world to gain more knowledge in the culinary field. He was married to Gloria Evelyn Augier and together they had a daughter. He lost his wife in 2020 after over five decades together.
Career
In 1976, he released a cookbook named “La Technique”. Not long after, he released “La Methode”. He created a culinary certificate program together with Rebecca Alssid and Julia Child for Boston University’s Metropolitan College. He later put together “The Apprentice: My Life in the Kitchen” which was his autobiography.
Achievement
He worked as a personal chef to Charles de Gaulle and two other heads of State in France. He also became Oceania Cruises’ executive culinary director.
