About James Brady
James Brady was an American politician remembered for being the 14th White House Press Secretary and the assistant to U.S. President Ronald Reagan. He was shot in the head during the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan in 1981. Although he survived the gunshot injury, he was left permanently disabled. He later went on to become one of America's most prominent crusaders for gun control.
Family Life
He fathered a daughter named Melissa with his first wife Sue Beth. After the marriage ended in divorce, he wed Sarah Jane Kemp in 1972. The couple's only child James was born in 1978.
Trivia
In 1996, U.S. President Bill Clinton honored him with America's highest civilian honor the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
He died 33 years later after the Reagan assassination attempt. The medical examiner attributed the cause of his death to the gunshot wound, thereby controversially ruling his death a homicide. The gunman John Hinckley Jr. was found not guilty of the crime by reason of insanity.
