About James Clerk Maxwell
James Clerk Maxwell was a Scottish scientist who earned the title the “Father of modern physics” for his immense contributions to physics, most notably his theory of electromagnetism. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest scientists in world history. Besides physics, he also made important contributions to astronomy and mathematics.
Family Life
He was the son of John Clerk Maxwell of Middlebie and Frances Cay. He married Katherine Mary Dewar in 1858. The marriage produced no children.
Trivia
He inspired the great scientist Albert Einstein.
He was also an accomplished poet, who wrote a number of poems, most notably Rigid Body Sings.
He was voted the third greatest physicist of all time behind Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein in the Millennium Poll of 1999.
