About James Fenimore Cooper
James Fenimore Cooper was a renowned American writer and poet who is widely celebrated for his second book entitled "The Spy", which was published in the early nineteenth century.
His historical novels featuring colonists and Native Americans ushered a new age of American writing. His best-known work is perhaps the “Leatherstocking Tales”, a series of five historical novels set in the frontier era which introduces the legendary American frontier scout, Natty Bumppo.
For most of his career, he wrote fiction and non-fiction which were centered on social, political, and historical topics to combat European preconception.
Family
He was married to Susan Augusta DeLancey from 1811 until 1851. Their union produced two children called Susan Fenimore Cooper and Paul Fenimore Cooper. His father’s name was William Cooper and his mother was named Elizabeth Fenimore Cooper.
