About James Lawson
James Lawson is an American activist who played a crucial role in the Civil Rights Movement in 1954. During his time in the group, he was known for his usage of peaceful approach in dealing with issues. He was named as one of the mentors of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and the Nashville Student Movement in the 1960s. He became a lecturer at the Vanderbilt University in 1957 where he taught nonviolent protest methods.

He’s the son of James Morris Lawson Sr and Philane May Cover. He and Dorothy Wood have three sons namely Seth, Morris, and John.
