About Jamie Wyeth
Born into a family with a rich history in arts, it was just a matter of time before Jamie Wyeth would establish himself as one of the greatest painters of his generation. He developed a love for the profession at an early age, but started making a name for himself in 1963 when he came up with his painting titled “Portrait of Shorty”.
In 1965, he came up with his art titled “Draft Age” which was influenced by the Vietnam War. His 1984 work dubbed “Night Vision” was to commemorate veterans of the war.
Family
He’s the son of renowned artist Andrew Wyeth and his wife Betsy. His paternal grandfather N.C. Wyeth was also an artist. In 1968, he married Phyllis Mills, who was the child of American banker James P. Mills and Alice du Pont Mills, an aviator.
Recognition
He has been accepted into a number of institutions including the American Watercolor Society, and the National Academy of Design. Schools such as the Pine Manor College, and the Elizabethtown College have awarded him their honorary degrees.
Trivia
His arts have been exhibited at centers like the Brandywine River Museum, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
He was trained by Carolyn Wyeth, his aunt.
He bought Rockwell Kent’s house during the 1960s.
