As Madge, the witty manicurist for Palmolive Dishwashing Detergent, Jan Miner cemented her place in television history for generations of fans. One of the longest-running TV product endorsement deals ever saw her play this role for 27 years. Her catchphrase "You're soaking it” became one of the most famous and most mimicked television commercial phrases of the era.
Her Life
She attended Boston's Vesper George School of Art. She continued her acting studies before making her stage debut in 1945 in a Boston production of Elmer Rice's "Street Scene."
From 1963 to 1998, she was married to actor Richard Merrell.
Career
She developed a solid reputation as a radio actress and appeared in a number of shows, including "Perry Mason" and "Boston Blackie." In the soap opera “Hilltop House’s”, she was cast as Julie Erickson.
She appeared in the 1958 melodrama "Obbligato". She then secured her most iconic role Madge in the 1966 to 1992 Palmolive ads.
