Jason Newsted is an American metal musician. He mainly plays bass guitar.

Newsted began playing guitar at the age of nine, and he moved to bass at 14. His first known band he played bass in was called Flotsam and Jetsam. After the death of Cliff Burton, the famous bassist on most of Metallica's classic albums, Jason Newsted took his place in the metal band. He both toured and recorded albums with Metallica. He played bass on the albums …And Justice for All, Metallica, Load, and ReLoad. After leaving Metallica to focus on Echobrain (a side-project), Newsted was replaced by current Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo.
