About Jason Taylor
He was seen by many as one of the top defensive ends in the National Football League (NFL) of his generation. The former outside linebacker and defensive end was crowned NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 after being named to six Pro Bowls and four first or second-team All-Pro teams.
Early Years
He was homeschooled from grades 10 through 12. He later attended Woodland Hills High School. He is an alumnus of Akron University, where he was a four-year letterman and three-year starter in the school’s football team.
Career & Accomplishments
In the third round of the 1997 NFL Draft, he was more than excited when the Miami Dolphins selected him. In his first season as a starter, he recorded five sacks and two fumble recoveries.
He was dealt to the Washington Redskins in 2008, and then returned to the Dolphins in 2009. Prior to rejoining the Dolphins in 2011, he signed a two-year contract with the New York Jets.
While playing for the Miami Dolphins, from 1997 to 2007, he was crowned AFC Defensive Player of the Year twice – in 2006 and 2002. He made the First-team All-Pro list three times during his first spell at the Dolphins.
For his contributions to the team and the sport in general, he was inducted into the Miami Dolphins Honor Roll.
Coaching Career
After he hung up his boots at the end of the 2011 season, he proceeded to become a coach. In 2017, he was appointed defensive line coach for St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida. In 2022, he became a defensive analyst for the Miami Hurricanes football team of the University of Miami.
