About Jawed Karim
Jawed Karim is an entrepreneur and software engineer of American heritage. He is widely recognized as a co-founder of the famous online video-sharing platform YouTube – he is also recognized as the very first person to post a video (“Me at the Zoo”) on the website.
He met the other founders, Chad Hurley and Steven Chen in 2002 when all three of them were PayPal employees. He is credited with designing YouTube’s anti-internet-fraud system as well as other important components.
Personal Life
His father is Bangladeshi while his mother is German. The family moved from Germany to settle in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in 1992.
Educational Background
Karim is a computer science graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and holds a Stanford University computer science master’s degree.
Business Ventures
He is the founder of YVentures, a venture fund company through which he has invested in Reddit, Airbnb, Palantir and Eventbrite.
Trivia
The channel which he used to upload “Me at the zoo” has been kept active with no other videos but has earned more than 1.2 million subscribers.
