About Jay Haas
After an impressive amateur career, Jay Haas began his professional career in 1976. That same year, he played in his first PGA Tour, and by the end of 1993, he had recorded nine victories at the event. In 2004, he was cleared to compete in the PGA Tour Championship, formerly the Champions Tour. He has also participated in the U.S. Open, and the Masters Tournament.
International Career
Haas has represented the United States in both the Presidents Cup, and the Ryder Cup. He won the latter for the first time in 1983. He was also a member of the US team that won the Presidents Cup in 1994.
Family
His uncle Bob Goalby was a famous golfer. Jerry Haas, also a golfer, is his brother. The renowned golfer has been married to Jan Haas. He’s the father of professional golfer William Harlan Haas.
Education
He played golf during his time at Wake Forest University.
Achievements
Haas’ numerous prizes include the Payne Stewart Award, the Bob Jones Award, and the Arnold Palmer Award. At the amateur level, he won the Walker Cup in 1975. He was ranked 17th on the Official World Golf Ranking in 2003.
Trivia
He captained the United States’ team during the Ryder Cup in 1996.
