About Jean-Baptiste Lamarck
Jean-Baptiste Lamarck was a celebrated French biologist and naturalist best remembered for his theory of evolution called Lamarckism (also known as Lamarckian inheritance), which states that organisms are capable of passing on the characteristics that they have acquired during their lifetime to their offspring. He wrote a number of books, most notably 1809's Philosophie Zoologique.
Family Life
He was the youngest of the eleven children of Philippe Jacques de Monet de La Marck and Marie-Françoise de Fontaines de Chuignolles. He was married three times. His first marriage was to Marie Anne Rosalie Delaporte, who bore him six children.
Trivia
He served in the French army and fought in the Pomeranian War.
At the time of his death, he was blind and poor.
