About Jean Cocteau
Jean Cocteau was a French poet, writer, designer and filmmaker best remembered for his 1929 novelLes Enfants Terribles as well as for directing famous films such as 1930's The Blood of a Poet and 1946's Beauty and the Beast.
Personal Life
He was the son of Eugénie Lecomte and Georges Cocteau, who worked as a lawyer. He and actor Jean Marais were in a romantic relationship that lasted from 1937 until his death in 1963. In addition to being his lover, Marais was also his muse.
Trivia
His father committed suicide when he was nine years old.
He never hid the fact that he was bisexual.
He died of a heart attack. He reportedly suffered the fatal heart attack upon hearing of the sudden death of his close friend singer Édith Piaf.
