About Jean Dubuffet
Jean Dubuffet was the originator of the “art brut” movement. He was one of the most prominent artists during the 1940s and 1950s. His works started attracting interest in 1942 after he decided to pay full attention to his crafts.
Two years later, the French painter organized his maiden solo show which was held at Paris’ Galerie Rene Drouin. Some of his most popular works were labelled “Monument with Standing Beast”, “La Chiffonnière” and the “Monument au Fantôme”.
His oeuvres have been exhibited at some popular art centers like the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
Education
He was trained at the famous Académie Julian.
Other Interesting Facts about Jean Dubuffet
His 1976 work titled “La féconde journée” was bought at £3.6 million in 2021.
