About Jean Genet
Many have argued that Jean Genet’s writing career helped him to overcome his criminal life which he exhibited during his early years. After spending a number of years in prisons and other correctional centers, the French writer published his first book in 1943 which was titled “Our Lady of the Flowers”.
In his book “Miracle of the Rose”, which was launched in 1946, Genet talked about his life in detention at Mettray Penal Colony. He also gave an account of his indecent lifestyle in his 1949 book “The Thief's Journal”.

He was adopted when he was only seven months old.
Death
He succumbed to throat cancer in 1986.
Trivia
Genet was also a filmmaker and worked on the film “Un Chant d'Amour” as a director.
His “Querelle of Brest” novel inspired the 1982 film “Querelle”.
As a playwright, he worked on many stage shows including “The Balcony” and “The Blacks”.
