About Jean-Martin Charcot
Widely described as the father of modern-day neurology, Jean-Martin Charcot played a huge part in the development of the study of psychology. A very popular figure during the 19th Century, Charcot was celebrated for his work on Louise Augustine Gleizes who was then suffering from hysteria.
Due to his contributions to neurology, a number of conditions such as Charcot–Bouchard aneurysms, and Charcot–Wilbrand syndrome have been named after him. He also worked with Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital for more than three decades.
As an author, he published many books including “Les Démoniaques dans l'art” and “Exposé des titres scientifiques”.
Personal Life
He was married to Madame Durvis and together they raised two children named Jean-Baptiste and Jeanne.
Recognition
The French neurologist was decorated with the Legion of Honour.
Trivia
He established a clinic in 1882.
Charcot was trained by Duchenne de Boulogne.
