About Jerry Nolan
Jerry Nolan's life is a perfect example of short-lived fame, music, and a good ol' cocktail of drugs. Although not the New York Dolls' original drummer, his turbulent career was significant enough to create a lasting legacy even after his untimely passing in 1992
Early Life
His choice to pick up the drums was inspired by his experience at an Elvis Presley performance in Hawaii, which left a lasting impression. In 1982, he tied the wedding knot with Charlotte Lotten.
Career
He played drums in his early bands in the 1960s, including one with future N.Y. Doll member Syl Sylvain. The duo went on to start the New York Dolls band. He contributed immensely on the Dolls' first two albums “New York Dolls” and “Too Much Too Soon”. He quit the Dolls with Johnny Thunders in 1975.
The Idols, a band/project that included former Doll Arthur Kane, was among the several bands/projects he later joined. Up until Thunders' passing in 1991, collaboration with him persisted on occasion.
He only lasted a few months longer than his lifelong pal. He contracted bacterial meningitis and pneumonia near the end of the year, which made him sick and caused a deadly stroke.
