Early Life
Originally from San Antonio, Texas, he received piano lessons in his teens and began singing to the congregation of the Refuge Church of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Notable Works
Before his songs became part of the church tradition, he composed choral music for the Thompson Community Singers. In the 1970s, he went on an 8-year music tour with singer Paul Simon while recording two successful albums, “Paul Simon in Concert: Live Rhymin'” and “Still Crazy After All These Years.” He partnered with Simon to produce “Wartime Prayers.” He also released such albums as “Heavenly News” and “Get Away Jordan.”
Death
Jessy Dixon passed away in 2011 after losing his battle with cancer.
Recognition
He received 7 nominations for “The Winning Side” album at the 30th Annual Grammy Awards.
