About Jill Scott
She started out as a spoken word artist in 2000 and went on to collaborate as a songwriter on the Roots single, “You Got Me”. Her first album, “Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1” was released in July 2001.
By 2007, she debuted as an actress with appearances in “Why Did I Get Married” and “Hounddog”. Her well-known singles include “The Way” and “A Long Walk”.
Family Life
She was raised in North Philadelphia by Joyce Scott, her mother and her grandmother. She has been married twice: to graphic artist Lyzel Williams from 2001 to 2007 and to Mike Dobson from 2016 to 2017.
She has a son with Li’l John Roberts, her drummer, whom she was engaged to from June 2008 to June 2009.
Achievements
She received three Grammy Awards for her songs “Daydreamin’”, “God Bless the Child” and “Cross My Mind”.
Trivia
She has been providing financial assistance to minority college students through her Blue Babe Foundation.
